Dear Friends,

I have recently returned from another Reiki (Shinpiden) workshop with Frans Stiene, co-founder of the International House of Reiki, and co-author of The Reiki Sourcebook. (www.reiki.net.au) What did I learn?

When we read a book for the second, or third, fourth etc, time around, we receive its message in a deeper place. This is especially true of a book that contains profound truth and wisdom, written from one who has been there. And so it is when studying Reiki with Frans, a Reiki practitioner/teacher who truly lives what he teaches, who continues to seek for deeper truth, and who teaches to be understood from that place of knowing.

During Frans' 4 day workshop I began to embody a deeper truth, as it relates to the System of Reiki developed, practiced and taught by Mikao Usui in the early 1900's. AND I began to embody a deeper truth for myself as it made itself known to me.

I learned that returning to our true nature was truly the intended purpose of Mikao Usui's teachings. That Reiki was not developed as a hands-on-healing modality is still a shock to many. The curious truth about Reiki is healing is a positive side effect of practicing the System of Reiki. Having said this, hands-on-healing is one of the five elements that distinguish Reiki from other healing modalities and is still an important piece in healing ourselves.

The basis of Usui's teachings were in the Five Precepts and in the meditations. Usui started his student's journey with these two elements... he taught one-on-one over several years, much like a spiritual guru would mentor his protegee to enlightenment. Over time symbols, mantras, initiations, and practices were offered as additional tools and support for the journey to true nature.

How can we relate this into today's world? We are in the midst of huge evolutionary change. Many can feel it in the internal and external changes taking place in our lives. By returning to our true nature not only can we find the calm in the storm, but we can return to our truth, the part within us that has always been there, that has remained exactly as it was created through all generations and lives. The part of us that continues to inspire toward healing, change and potential. Hands-on-healing supports this journey for us.

Reiki can support our way back to truth, can empower us to find our own way, our very being of existence. Reiki supports us to find our balance in this world, and in this place of balance we automatically return to wellness and vitality of life. Reiki also supports healing of plants, animals, and the earth.

Reiki can be taught over a two day workshop, but Reiki is a lifetime practice in order to reap its true benefits.
